How LANAP and LAPIP are Changing the Treatment of Periodontal Disease

One of the biggest fears patients have about going to the dentist is pain: from needles, to scaplels, to sutures, patients dread the pain that comes with dental procedures both during and after.  Coupled with recovery periods that can be longer than ideal, this fear compounds into an angst that, for many, prevents them from seeking care to maintain optimal dental health.  Enter the Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure (LANAP) and Laser Assisted Periimplantitis Procedure (LAPIP): revolutionary new ways for dental professionals, namely periodontists to treat gum disease and periodontal health problems in a way that is quick, easy, requires no cutting or sewing, and yields incredible results.

Using the Periolase MVP 7 laser from Millennium dental technology, the power of light can be unleased to provide laser assisted regeneration.  While other techniques often affect healthy tissue as well as unhealthy tissue, the variable 7 different pulse durations in the MVP 7 laser allow for targeting of only the damaged tissue and source of periodontal inflammation.¹  In addition, LANAP can slow or stop the loss of attachment to teeth that often leads to instability, decrease periodontal pocket depth, and allow for recovery from chornic periodontal disease without the cutting or removal of the gum tissue itself.^1.  This targeted, specific approach to treatment provides even better results than traditional techniques, largely because it allows the patient to experience less pain and bleeding, a decrease in post-operative sensitivity, less gum loss, a decrease in infection and infection risk, less swelling, regeneration of supporting gum tissue, and less downtime letting the patient get back to their daily life as quickly and easily as possible!¹
